THE GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK COLLECTION

Although one of the smaller national parks, with about 310,000 acres, Grand Teton National Park is certainly a beautiful and diverse place. Photographers can explore mountains, lakes, waterfalls, forests, cattle ranches and homesteads. There is an abundance of wildflowers and wildlife including bison, elk, deer, bears, and coyotes. No wonder the park has over three million visitors each year, attracting mountain climbers, skiers, hikers, nature enthusiasts and artists. In fact, one of the most famous photographers, Ansel Adams, photographed the park in the 1940s. One of the great features is its easy accessibility, but photographers should go beyond the overlooks and walk the informal trails to capture better angles and additional scenes.

CHANGES

Gliclee print of fall color in the Tetons
In this image you can see a full array of colors along the Snake River with the Teton Mountains in the background and an expressive sky for dramatic effect. Autumn is a great time of year to visit the Tetons. Aspens, shrubs and grasses change color, the wildlife is active and the crowds are smaller.

FIRST LIGHT

Giclee print of Teton mountains
In this image I love the contrast between shadow and light when the sun is low on the horizon. The sunlight is at just the right angle to enhance the various colors in the jagged mountains. The largest one in the range (and in the image) is called the Grand Teton which stands 13,775 feet high. The snow on the mountains is actually the remnants of the glacier that formed the mountain range over 100,000 years ago.

ROCKY SHORE

Glicee print of rocky shoreline
You never know where you can find an interesting picture. The colorful stones were the initial attraction to the shoreline at Jenny Lake. Capturing the sensational, three-dimensional effect of the water floating over the stones was an unexpected bonus. It takes a pristine lake to get this effect and the park service enforces strict rules to keep the lakes clean and free of pollutants.

MOULTON BARN

Gliclee print of Moulton Barn
It’s easy to see why the Moulton Barn is one of the most photographed places in the park. The barn is an impressive two-story building with a sloping roof built by Thomas Moulton in the early 1900s. In this image viewers can see the barn with the Teton Mountains and an expressive sky in the background. It’s picture perfect!
