THE ANTELOPE CANYON COLLECTION
Antelope Canyon, located near Page Arizona, is one of several stunning slot canyons in the Southwest. It
feels like being in a cave except that the roof is missing. What immediately grabs your attention is the
unusual sandstone formations which took Mother Nature thousands of years to carve. The beautiful colors
are due to various minerals within the rocks. As the sun moves across the sky, the light accentuates
different parts of the sandstone and produces interesting effects. While this canyon is very popular with
photographers, it takes work to capture and produce above average images. The photographer needs a full
featured DSLR camera and tripod to experiment with slow shutter speeds as light changes when moving from
one area to the next. Antelope Canyon should be on everyone’s bucket list. It is easy to access with a
tour guide and requires a minimum amount of walking.
This image has such unusual shapes and colors it’s hard to believe it hasn’t been enhanced
by Photoshop, but it hasn’t. Sometimes you just can’t improve on Nature. The purple and pink
colors are awesome! Antelope Canyon is one of the few places I’ve seen so many colors embedded
in the rocks.

Antelope Canyon never fails to amaze me. Everywhere you look you see such diverse
formations. In this image you are looking through two dark narrow rocks and find a
bright orange area lit up by the sun. Very stunning!

This image is one of the many unusual formations found at Antelope Canyon in Arizona.
I especially like the way the rock loops around and accentuates the orange color
surrounded by black rock. It feels like being in a cavern, hence the title “The Grotto.”

I decided to finalize this image in black and white for dramatic effect. It draws the
viewer’s attention to the patterns in the rocks and the contrast of light and dark is
more apparent. The rocks are only inches apart in this section and seems like they are
perfectly balanced.
